Episode Pro Configuration
To work across multiple computers, Episode Pro must be configured into a cluster. The cluster axle uses has a trial version of Episode Pro on the axle server, and a licensed version on one or more additional computers.
Both the axle server and the transcode computer must be connected to the storage you want to manage.
Both the axle server and the transcode computer must have static IPs.
Once both computers have axle and are connected to the storage, you must set the node storage on both machines. Node storage tells Episode where to find files on the system by giving folders names. You only need to specify parent folders, all their children will be included. Typically you use the volume or volumes your media is stored on.
Open terminal, and type cd /Applications/Episode.app/
To set the node storage, type ./episodectl ns --add name-of-folder path/to/folder. For example:
./episodectl ns --add library /volumes/media
Make sure you use the same names for the same folders on both machines.
You can drop a folder from finder into the terminal window to automatically write its path.
Once you have set the node storage, you'll want to set the node cache, where Episode moves the files while transcoding. For best performance, make this on the volume you are storing your axle proxies. In fact, we recommend creating a cache folder inside your proxies folder.
If you are still in /bin, type:
./episodectl ncache --set /path/to/cache
./episodectl ncache --set /volumes/media/proxies/cache
Do this on both computers.
Once the node storage and node cache has been set on both machines, it's time to make the cluster. In Episode on the axle server, go to Episode -> Preferences in the toolbar at the top. In the general tab, change Keep Job History to 24 hours.
In the Cluster tab, uncheck Run Jobs. Close the preferences window.
Still in Episode on the axle server, go to Window in the toolbar at the top, and choose Cluster Browser.
From the dropdown menu at the top, choose Create Cluster. Name it whatever you like.
In Episode on the transcode machine, open the preferences menu. In the Advanced tab, uncheck Run as a low priority process and close the preferences window.
Open the cluster browser, find the cluster you just made in the list, select it, and choose Join Cluster from the dropdown at the top.
Activate in axle
In axle, go to the advanced admin page and select Episode Pro in the Generate Proxies section.
